Indigenous and Cultural Activities: Get Up and Move Camp
Indigenous learning opportunities and multicultural activities that celebrate diversity, connection, and respect for the land. Programming is designed to be inclusive, accessible, and hands-on, allowing participants to learn through play, movement, storytelling, music, and traditional games.
These experiences are woven naturally into camp life so that learning feels meaningful, fun, and engaging while honouring the many cultures that make up our communities. A key part of this commitment is hiring and partnering with individuals from Indigenous backgrounds to help guide programming authentically and respectfully. Indigenous staff, mentors, and community partners will play an active role in shaping activities, sharing lived experiences, and ensuring cultural teachings are presented accurately and thoughtfully. This approach supports representation, builds trust, and creates opportunities for participants to learn directly from Indigenous voices.
Get Up and Move Camp will also include visits to Indigenous sites, reserves, and culturally significant spaces when appropriate and approved, helping participants better understand the land they live on and the communities connected to it. Through guided experiences, discussions, and outdoor learning, campers will explore concepts of stewardship, respect for nature, and community responsibility. These experiences are designed to deepen understanding, foster empathy, and strengthen connections between participants, the land, and the diverse cultures that share it. Throughout the camp, emphasis will be placed on creating a safe and welcoming environment where curiosity, questions, and learning are encouraged. Activities will be adapted to meet a wide range of physical, cognitive, and communication needs, ensuring every participant can engage in ways that are meaningful to them.
By combining movement, cultural learning, and community connection, Get Up and Move Camp aims to build confidence, understanding, and a sense of belonging for all participants.
