Through food, music, games, and other activities, the Active Lives: Discover Your Roots initiative is looking to develop events surrounding various cultural holidays and celebrations to engage exceptional young adults in programming where they can learn some of the essential elements of their culture from each celebration while creating lifelong connections with peers and feel a sense of purpose and community.

Active Lives: Discover Your Roots is striving for a future where adults living with exceptionalities can embrace their religious heritage and make connections with friends that will last a lifetime. A place where adults with disabilities can feel safe and empowered and find a sense of purpose within their religious community.

Most programs that are offered during the day are seen as post-secondary, similar to programs students in undergraduate studies are pursuing at various well-known institutions. Due to this fact, there is a missing component to the overall enrichment of participants’ sense of culture outside of their experience in the ‘day programs’. After extensive research, Active Lives Canada has found that there is little to no outside community engagement such as a social enterprise for this demographic.
