Jim Thornton -Vice Chair
Bio:
Jim has spent his life leading, serving, and building strong teams in both volunteer and professional roles. He served as President of the Lions Club in Mount Forest and Fergus for a total of six years, showing long-term commitment to community leadership and service. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Erin and Caledon for 16 years, and spent about three years as Training Officer with Caledon Fire, where he helped train new firefighters and strengthen emergency response systems through hands-on leadership and mentorship.Professionally, Jim worked as Superintendent of Maintenance for multiple plants in Brampton, Belleville, Woodstock, and Kalamazoo, Michigan with a company called Precon.
He also served as a Plant Superintendent in Brampton, overseeing operations, safety, staff, and infrastructure. These roles gave him deep experience in problem-solving, planning, safety standards, and keeping complex systems running smoothly.All of this makes Jim an outstanding Vice Chair for Active Lives Canada. His background in emergency services brings strong safety awareness and calm decision-making under pressure, while his superintendent experience gives him practical knowledge of buildings, equipment, budgets, and staff support. He leads with consistency, care, and competence, helping ensure that Active Lives Canada is safe, strong, and able to grow with confidence.
