Bio:
Karen Brown brings over 30 years of professional experience in long-term care, disability support, and community advocacy to her role as a Board Member of Active Lives Canada. Her career includes 11 years at Sunset Extended Care in Regina, Saskatchewan, and an exceptional 23-year tenure at Avalon Long Term Care Home, where she served as a Personal Support Worker supporting individuals with complex needs within regulated care environments. Her early career in childcare further strengthened her understanding of developmental care and family-centred service delivery.
In addition to her professional career, Karen served as Co-Chair of the Autism Dufferin Chapter from 2005 to 2008, and remained actively involved with the organization from 2000 to 2012. In these roles, she provided leadership in advocacy, supported families, and contributed to inclusive, community-based initiatives. She brings a strong governance perspective to the board, grounded in ethics, accountability, and care quality, and is a valued contributor to the strategic direction of Active Lives Canada.
