Beverley Young is one of the original founders of Active Lives Canada and has played a central role in shaping the vision, values, and foundation of the organization since its earliest days. Her leadership has been instrumental in guiding the organization from a small community initiative into a multi-campus, mission-driven not-for-profit serving individuals and families across Dufferin County and beyond. With a professional background rooted in customer service, staff development, and workplace health and safety, Beverley brings a practical and people-focused lens to her governance role. Her hands-on experience managing teams, supporting inclusive programming, and overseeing day-to-day operations gives her a deep understanding of the needs of both staff and participants.
Since joining the board in 2014, Beverley has remained committed to strengthening the long-term sustainability of Active Lives Canada. She has played a key role in developing board policies, guiding strategic planning processes, and ensuring transparent decision-making rooted in the organization’s mission. Her strong grasp of board governance is further reinforced by the completion of two Capacity Canada Board Governance certificate programs, her participation in ongoing sector training webinars, and her current studies in not-for-profit financial literacy and oversight through Good Casting. Beverley takes a thoughtful, measured approach to leadership, valuing collaboration, accountability, and ethical stewardship at every level.
As Board Chair, Beverley is dedicated to ensuring that Active Lives Canada continues to thrive as a high-quality resource for adults with developmental differences and their families. She brings a deep sense of responsibility to her role, advocating for strong financial practices, equitable service delivery, and a culture of care and respect throughout the organization. Her long-standing commitment to inclusion, growth, and good governance makes her a steady and trusted leader as Active Lives Canada continues to evolve in response to community needs.
